New legislation entitles employees to one weeks’ unpaid leave per year

From 6 April 2024, new legislation entitles employees to one weeks’ unpaid leave per year to provide or arrange care for a dependant with a long-term care need.

Employers will not be able to refuse a request for carer’s leave, but in certain circumstances may be able to ask the employee to postpone the leave for up to one month.
