Hospitality – allocation of tips

14th August 2023

Employment law, Newbury, Berkshire.

New legislation has been approved that will require employers to fairly allocate certain tips or gratuities paid by customers and pass the payments on to staff within one month.

Businesses that regularly receive tips will also be required to have a written policy and comply with a statutory code of practice.

The new legislation is expected to come into force in May 2024 and businesses working in areas where tips are common should ensure that they are aware of the changes and update their procedures accordingly.
