Extension of redundancy protection

The Protection from Redundancy (pregnancy and family leave) Act 2023 was approved last year (May 2023)

The Protection from Redundancy (pregnancy and family leave) Act 2023 was approved last year (May 2023) along with the Maternity leave, adoption leave and shared parental leave (Amendment) Regulations 2024 (dec 2023). These are expected to be in force from 6 April 2024 (for pregnancies on or after) and provide additional protection for employees, for example: 

a)         Pregnancy: protection from redundancy will start from the employee informing their employer of pregnancy, and the protected period runs until 2 weeks after the end of the pregnancy, extended to 18 months after the birth. 

b)         Adoption: protection will run 18 months from the placement.
